Load planning, capacity

The imagery on this page is conceptual. Product interfaces are added as each case study is enriched.

Context

A freight load is a physics problem before it is a logistics one — mass, balance and volume have to settle before anything leaves the ground or the yard. Ballast is where that plan is made and checked.

Challenge

Load planning still happens in spreadsheets and in someone's head, and the cost of a wrong plan is paid at the worst moment — at the ramp, on the scale, at the border. The task was to move the reasoning forward, to before the wheels turn.

Approach

The plan is built as a constraint problem the planner can see and override: capacity, weight distribution and sequence are computed, but the human keeps the last word, because the exceptions are where the real expertise lives.

Key decisions

Constraints are shown, not hidden inside a solver. Every automatic choice can be overridden, with the consequence made visible. The plan is legible enough to hand to the crew who load against it.

The interface

A working surface, not a report: the hold or the trailer laid out to scale, the limits drawn on it, and a warning the moment a change breaks one.

Outcome

A plan that is settled before loading begins — and a record of why it was settled that way when something has to change.
